Post 10 (04-12): English Language Challenges

The End of the Beginning

During my five years in college I discovered that English is very important to develop interpersonal relationships between people, because thanks to the conversations about series and films that I had with my friends, I begun to understand many jokes and memes that are in social media all the time and, I don’t know how, I started to understand more in the English classes (yes!). I’m saying that memes, series and youtube’s videos save my life during the process of learning English at college. 

Obviously, I want to say thanks to the teachers for support me in this complex road, because their teaching methods was very didactic in comparison with the poor and boring methods that I had at high school.

I think that is great the “write-in-a-blog method”. This was useful for me and it makes so much easier building sentences to write my texts  in this language. I learned how to express complex ideas (for my level).

Furthermore, I think that my weakest skills are listening and the vocabulary. When I hear people talking each other in English, I’m not capable to understand the full mean of the sentences. I think is because the speed of how people talk. And I don’t know a lot of words. To improve this, I think I should watch even more series and films in English, maybe without the help of the subtitles to force myself to think in English. It would be helpful, reading a lot too. Or, I could go to a language club in some library and have conversations with real people in English.

In my daily life, I use the English in my profession. I mean, there are tons of technical words related to filmmaking, for examples shutter speed, frame, transfer, travelling...and the list goes on and also I use in my leisure time.

Post 9 (04-12) Changing the Study Programme

A Month of Leaving Forever?

I study cinema in a public university and I would like to start by saying the only thing that I wouldn't change of my career. I wouldn’t change the teaching methods because it is very inclusive, democratic and open to the dialog in the classes on both the theoric and practic subject, the teachers value the opinion of the students and this is very important at the time of creating a community in the university.

The university have two study programmes for the same career, the first is the bad one and the second is the good one, well, I have the first.

In my studies programme we have many theoric subjects about communication and mass media, this is good but we have less time for the subjects specific of cinema and also this makes the workload is very high, because it combines the delivery of academic work with the delivery of cinematographic proyects. For all this I would propose as a solution to remove a few theoric subjects and to add more subject about cinema (production designer, more screenplay) and extending the deadlines.

Long ago the university campus was very beautiful, full of trees, fresh air and lots of grass, but now it is full of buildings in construction and many construction machinery, all the landscape is grey, there is nowhere to sit in the shade, I would like the campus  to be like before, green, quiet and with party in the "Cenicero" the fridays.

The technology in the campus is very is good, but bad in the careers because in my case, in cinema career, the equipment that we need for recording the short films is not good, I think that the directive needs to invest more money in  last generation filmmaking equipment.

Post 8 (03-12) An Artist You Love.

Explosions in the Sky

The year was 2009 and me was a geek teenage that I liked very much surfing in the internet, them year I discovered in Youtube one band that changed my musical tastes, they’re "Explosions in the Sky".

This band of post-rock instrumental of the Austin, Texas, born in the year 1999, made up for three guitarists, one bassist and one drumer. In the year 2004 they released their first álbum and done to date they've already released seven albums and also have composed the soundtrack for four movies.

In the year 2015 I saw them in the musical festival “Primavera Fauna” and was a religious experience, the sound of the guitars with the distortion, delay and synthesizers I was feel have a emocional trip through of fast and slow melodies in the same song, that was amazing. Also the emotional and madness performance of the artists onstage to shown that they can feel the music with a cathartic experience, as well as me and all the people in them moment.

For my, all art expression is relevant in this world, even more in this days, but the music is a essential part for my day by day and is what distracts me from the problems.

Post 7 (27-11) : Current Issues

All Cat Are Beautiful

It has now been a week since that the police of Chile killed Camilo Catrillanca, a member of the Mapuche Community of the Araucanía region, one week, during which, the state of the republic of Chile covered up this institution of murderers through false evidence and shift of attention by media. All of this, once more, under the historic conflict between the state of Chile and the Mapuche People, that arises in the century XVI when the conquering Spaniards snatched violently the lands of this native people.

Yesterday on CNN Chile there was a talk about one posible solution to stop the murders that the police carried out against the mapuche people, the journalist said that the state should have absolut control over the police of Chile, because to the present day this institution seems has control totally autonomous. But my solution is more simple, first, the state return the lands  at the mapuche people, second, withdraw the police force of the araucania, and finally to imprison at the uniformed murderers.

This issue catches my attention because it reveals how disgusting the state of this country is, because from the beginning Chile is a country corrupted by the political power, a country that talks about “progress” but it does not practice it. The murder of Camilo Catrillanca, the conflict of the state with de mapuche people and the issues for health in the community of Quinteros due to environmental pollution, all this shows that this country is falling deeper into the neoliberal capitalism and in his own ego, worthy of one climber society.

Post 6 (13-11) Post Graduate Studies

Post Graduates Now?!

I finish the university in three months more and undertaking a post graduate in this moment of my life it would be very hasty because I currently I’ve others plans for my in the short term, but I’ve on my mind taking one post degrees in 3 years maybe. I will like very much taking some related with the cinematography, I think that my formation in the university about of this theme is very basic and I think that it would be very important for my laboral future because I want dedicated at this.

Few months ago, I reviewing some pages in internet of universities abroad and I was found countrys offered many options of undertaking post graduate, but Spain and France which have attracted my attention, because the curriculum it promises to strengthen the relation between screenplay and cinematography in addition to the multicultural environment that create. Spain offer very much options of post graduate in different universities of Madrid and Barcelona, that is great for me because my girlfriend will travel in two years more at Barcelona and I think that could to job in this place to pay my post graduate. The other options is France, there I prettend undertaking one postgraduate in the school of cinema La Femis, Is very complicated enter in this school but I will try, I think with my studies of french I will achieve somethings.

Post 5 (06-11) - My Future Job

The Dream Job

In the actuality I'm in my fifth and the last year in the University of Chile, in the cinema career, and hence also I would like that my future job is related with the world of the cinema, but mostly I would love work in the area of cinematography.

I think to explore more in this world I may starter at familiarize myself more with the professional environment that exists in the large filmings, contrary that happens when you are student, also be keeping abreast of the new technologies, learn more about of the theory of the cinematography, generate panel discussions,  promoting and decentralising the culture of cinema, among others.

One of the benefits to work in cinema world is that most of the time I don’t need to stay sit in an office all day, because  usually we must be in many places during the filming, for example to record in one closed environment (home, appartament, recording studio) or in a outdoor space (forest, beach, city, street). Other benefits of this work is that always we be keep moving, whether in the city, within the country or in the world.

I think that this job is ideal for me, one person that don’t like much the routine, that’s why I love my career, because gives me the possibility to not stay at one place for a long time.

Post 4 (30-10) My Pet.

Burbuja, my loved pet.

Well, I’ll speak about pets for my is very complicated, because four years ago my pet died, she was very special for me, she lived much time with us, more than other pets that I had in my life, but I´m gonna share my good memories with you.

Her name was burbuja, she was a poodle dog and I remember the day with my dad came with she in the pocket with her jacket when she was five month, in this moment she was very tiny, of the size of my hand maybe, her hair was dark grey and had very much rollers and her nose was very wet y softly, that night she slept with me.

When she had more years and got bigger (just a little more) she was the most loved in the house, she slept in all the beds of the house, she had many products for her hair, straps very fancy, many toys, clothes for Winter, etc. She was a dog very restless, played y jumped all day and always she wanted caresses in his head.

The day that her died it was very painful for us, all in my house we cry, but with the time all understood that her he made us see the animals like at one human that need love and respect.
